History of Bijna in 15th Century
(At the time of Garhkundhar)

Bijna was first founded by Raja Madhukar Shah-1 in the 15th century at the time of Raja Rudrapratap Singh of Garhkundhar. Raja Rudrapratap had two sons, born in Garhkundhar. The eldest son was Bharti Chand-1 and younger son was Madhukar Shah.

Madhukar Shar-1 married Rani Ganesh Kumari and shift to Bijna. He started living in bijna, his one son Brisingh Deo (Bir Singh Deo) was born in Bijna Fort, Place called Anand Bhawan. bijna is just four KOS (12 KM.) away from Garhkundhar. Madhukar Shah-1 lived in Bijna for 23 years. I the mean time his father Raja Rudra Pratap shifted his capital, Garhkundhar to Orchha in 1501-1531. Raja Rundra Pratap died in Orchha in 1531. His eldest son Bharti Chand-1 become the Raja of Orchha in 1531.

In 1554 Raja Bharti Chand died without having any issue. Then Madhukar Shah-1 of bijna moved from Bijna fort to Orchha with his wife Rani Ganesh Kumari and his son Bir Singh Deo. Madhukar Shah-1 became Raja of Orchha in 1554.
