Raja mahendra sawant singh ju deo Bahadur (1690-1752) received bijna in 1690 after madukar shah -1. He was granted the title of "Mahendra" by Padshah Alamgir (Jahangir) (2nd founder of Bijna)- (1690-1752) He succeed the throne of orchha in 1752-65. And separated bijna from orchha in 1765 and declare bijna independent state.

The Government of India issued a commemorative stamp on the ancient musical instrument, the Pakhawaj, in 1998. The greatest exponent of Pkhawaj is Raja Chhatrapati Singh ju Deo Bundela of Bijna, 1919 to 1998. He revived the classical instrument and popularised it in India, Europe and America.

Lokendra Singh ju Deo, the younger brother of Raja Mahendra Chhatrapati Singh ju Deo Bahadur of Bijna, was a peace activist. During a peace movement event in Delhi he played the role of an interpreter to the world famous American pacifist Albert Bigelow, ex US Navy Commander and the author of 'Voyage of the Golden Rule'.
